Perkins Curitiba facility celebrates 250,000th engine milestone
Customers, distributors and employees celebrated a significant milestone for Perkins in Brazil and Latin America as the 250,000th engine came off the production line in Curitiba, Brazil.
Fourteen years after it opened, the Curitiba facility which produces Perkins® 1100 Series engines to specifically support off-highway applications in Brazil and Latin America, manufactured its 250,000th engine.
Rodrigo Chibior, Perkins Curitiba facility manager said: “The production of our 250,000th off-highway engine is a significant opportunity to celebrate everything we have achieved with the Perkins brand in the region over the last 14 years. We’ve served our customers with quality mechanical and electronic engines; we’ve established the Perkins product support and service network and have developed a world-class team of employees, who are proud to produce our engines.”
He continued: “As well as growing our brand awareness, I’m delighted to say that across the region we have also developed strong partnerships with leading equipment manufacturers in the agricultural, electric power and construction sectors.”
More than 50 guests took part in the celebration which was also attended by Perkins distributors and many of Perkins’ agricultural, electric power and construction customers.
“We truly value the partnerships we have with every one of our customers and this 250,000th engine celebration would not be possible without their continued support,” said Vanda Camargo, Perkins general sales manager for South America. “At Perkins we focus on producing quality, dependable and highly productive engines to meet our customers’ needs. The mechanical and electronic 3, 4, and 6 cylinder engines manufactured at Curitiba are powering machines in Brazil, Latin America and a host of other lesser regulated territories that our customers export to.
“As a leading global engine manufacturer, we remain committed to providing our customers with the right power solutions. I’m proud to say this commitment enabled the Perkins Curitiba facility to achieve Brazil MAR-1 non-road emissions certification for both our mechanical and electronic engines. This has given our customers the opportunity to meet the latest emissions standards while still selecting the right engines for their machines.”
Engines are produced using the Caterpillar Production System (CPS) established in all Perkins manufacturing operations, ensuring the same efficient processes and stringent quality controls are implemented at every global facility.
Production processes feature state-of-the-art computerised and robotic technology for machining, assembly, test and paint.
To meet the growing demand for Perkins engines in Brazil and the Latin America market, Curitiba employs an engaged team of 130 employees.
“Perkins Curitiba facility is the flagship manufacturing base for Perkins branded engines in South America, representing the brand’s 85 year history of engine manufacturing excellence,” added Rodrigo. “The facility stands shoulder to shoulder with its 1100 Series counterparts in the UK and China, working to the same exacting quality standards and encouraging excellence throughout. I’m proud to say our original equipment customers are very satisfied with what we are achieving here – which is the true measure of success.”
To meet its customers’ requirements, Perkins continues to invest in its partnerships with equipment manufacturers, in the integration of its engines into customers’ machines, and in its people, who as well as building world-class engines, provide engineering expertise, application advice, sales, marketing and service support.
