The reasons and solutions for generator set overheating

1.Coolant water is not enough causing diesel engine overheating;

2.Serious burning of engine oil causes excessive carbon deposit and poor heat dissipation;

3.Oil supply time is too late, which causing diesel engine overheating;

4.Long term use of hard water causes a lot of scale forming in water tank and water channel, leading to poor heat dissipation;

5.There are too many impurities in the water channel of the engine block and cylinder head, which makes the water circulation not smooth and causes poor heat dissipation;

6.After maintenance, generator set is put into full load operation immediately, causing overheat of moving parts or jamming due to too small clearance;

7.Improper operation and use. (diesel engine should be warmed up with medium and small throttle for a period of time. It is not allowed to suddenly increase the throttle and load suddenly, otherwise the diesel engine will work rough and the temperature will increase sharply.)

8.Long time overload operation of diesel engine will also lead to high temperature of diesel engine.

Once we find generator set overheating, must pay attention to it, check the reasons and solve in time to ensure normally working. If we can pay attention to the below items, we can be very good to prevent the generator set overheating.

1.Maintain cooling system inside and outside clean, which is one of the important conditions to improve the heat dissipation performance. When the outside of the radiator is stained with soil or oil, or the heat sink is deformed due to collision, the ventilation will be affected, and the heat dissipation effect of the radiator will be poor, resulting in the high temperature of the coolant. If the radiator has this problem, we should clean or repair it in time. In addition, the cooling system with scale, sand or oil will affect the heat transfer of the coolant. Adding poor quality coolant or water will increase the scale of cooling system, and the heat transfer capacity of scale is only one tenth of that of metal, so the cooling effect will be worse. Therefore, the cooling system should be filled with high-quality coolant.


2.The circulating cooling water in water tank should be enough all the time. When diesel engine is cold, the coolant level should be between the expansion tank and the min. Mark. If coolant level is below min. mark of expansion tank, we should refill in time. PS: the coolant in the expansion tank can not be filled up, so there should be room for expansion.


3.Use correctly closed cooling system. When diesel engine working, when the engine is working, the coolant vapor enters the expansion tank and flows back to the radiator after cooling, which can prevent a large amount of evaporation loss of the coolant and increase the boiling point temperature of the coolant. The cooling system should use high-quality coolant with anti-corrosion, anti boiling, anti freezing and water-proof scale, and the sealing must be guaranteed in the use to obtain the effect. The normal operating temperature of the diesel generator set itself should not exceed 50 degrees. Once the temperature is exceeded, the diesel generator set equipped with self-protection function will automatically alarm and shut down. Therefore, it is advisable to choose diesel generator with self starting function.


4.Keep the fan tape tension moderate. The fan belt is too loose, so that the speed of the water pump is too low, affecting the circulation of the coolant and accelerating the wear of the belt. But if the tape is too tight, will make the pump bearing wear. In addition, the tape should not be stained with oil. Therefore, the tension of fan belt should be checked and adjusted regularly. If it does not mett the standard, it should be adjusted accordingly.


5.Pay attention to good ventilation in the machine room to avoid heavy load operation of diesel generator set.
